NonStop Clock OPTA2000

Time-sensitive applications can operate with virtual time zones in consolidated data center

Synchronize clocks across applications

OPTA2000 provides date & time and time-zone simulation for all HPE NonStop Guardian and OSS applications and databases with no application changes required.

Time-zone simulation allows applications to operate in any virtual time zone on a single NonStop server.

Easy to use

Customizable

How it Works

OPTA2000 uses intercept libraries and virtual time containers to provide simulated dates & times and simulated time zones to applications and data bases.

A virtual time container is used to create a simulated date and time or simulated time zone for applications, consisting of a specified set of programs, processes, users, and any other common process run-time attribute.

Virtual time containers can be customized to include or exclude certain applications & databases. The intercept library is used to intercept date and time function calls to the Nonstop operating system from all applications and databases.

By employing OPTA2000, your organization can:

  • Eliminate the need to change system clocks in order to test environments that are time-sensitive.
  • Allow existing backup, development, and production systems to support worldwide consolidated applications.

The Why

OPTA2000 was originally developed to meet the challenges of Y2K. Having to convert two-digit year formats into four-digit year formats and then testing affected applications to make sure they didn’t crash at midnight on January 1, 2000, was a developer’s nightmare a decade ago.

Out of that “panic” grew a new industry, one providing clock-simulation tools that provided the ability to change the time and date of an application for testing, development, and maintenance purposes without having to change the system clock. One of those tools was OPTA2000.

Today, OPTA2000 is valued by HPE NonStop customers worldwide for its use in many situations where time-sensitivity becomes an issue in application environments.

TANDsoft is committed to providing our customers with best date & time and time zone simulation solutions.

Date & time simulation allows organizations to “time travel” their applications in the future or past to test all date & time sensitive logic, eliminating the need to manually change the system clock.

Key Differentiators

  • Gain the competitive advantage. Shorter testing cycles, meeting deadlines, reducing resources while providing high software reliability.
  • Easy to implement. No code changes. No System clock changes. System file timestamps untouched.
  • Safe. Manual time-testing can propagate wrong file timestamps causing major havoc in backups, system batch jobs, and damaging other core server functions.
  • Compatible. Supports all customer, HP, third-party, Enscribe, SQL/MP and SQL/MX NonStop applications & databases.
  • Reduce costs. Consolidated data centers and applications using virtual time zones dramatically reduce hardware, software and resource related costs.
  • Time test critical applications. Pensions, Leap Year, Billing Cycles, Policies, Daylight Savings, Future Dates, End of Month/Quarter/Year Transactions.
  • Flexible. A single server license allows unlimited virtual time containers for multiple applications running at the same time.
  • Supports all NonStop application types and servers (TNS, TNS/R, TNS/E and TNS/X) and also available for Linux, UNIX, and Windows.
  • Proven. OPTA2000 is in use at several of HP’s customers worldwide.
